There are few things more annoying than a clogged toilet. Dirty flush water is left in the bowel and the water can even overflow, thus flooding the bathroom floor. If your toilet is clogging, then it’s time to fix it. Luckily, this isn’t difficult at all.
Your first action should be the use of a plunger. First, place some towels around the base of the toilet. Next, make sure the bowl has enough water inside. There should be enough water to completely cover the plunger.
We recommend using a plunger with an extension flange. A plunger with this extension fits the toilet bowl better and is able to deliver more pressure to the plunging motion. This simple tool should be enough to unclog 90% of toilets.
How to Use the Plunger
- Make your first plunge gentle. The bell of the plunger is initially full of air, so a hard plunge will force the air around the seal and splash the water out of the toilet bell and onto you. Suffice to say, this isn’t what you want.
- After the air has exited the bell, you can begin to plunge the bowl vigorously. Do this about 5-15 times and take a break. For most toilets, this should be enough to unclog the toilet.
- If the toilet is still clogged, try using a toilet snake. This works in a similar fashion to a plunger but is able to get deeper.
And if your toilet is still clogged after this, you may need to contact a professional plumber. VMax Plumbing can get your toilet unclogged and working normally.
